It’s the fourth annual Regional Wine Week…a week focused on celebrating wine from The Other 47 states in the U.S. (not the big industries of California, Washington and Oregon) put on by Drink Local Wine.

To celebrate, they are holding a 47-word essay contest…47 words about your favorite local wine, producer or region. Here’s my entry…

Living back in my home state of Virginia, I’ve discovered many fabulous wines! One example…what Blenheim Vineyards does with Virginia’s official grape, Viognier. Like all their wines, it’s fun, approachable and easy-to-drink. Next time buying wine, go local. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you uncork!

I’m celebrating all weekend with Virginia wines and a trip to the Monticello Wine Trail in Charlottesville. First stop, Blenheim Vineyards and a visit with their great winemaker Kirsty Harmon.

Cheers!
